Chair of Governors
Member of Compass Schools Trust and Trustee since July 2013
Martin Deutz was a founder of the school and worked particularly on the financial and operational aspects of our start-up. He has since been closely involved in supporting the Principal and the business team during our expansion to our present scale. He helped set up the school because he believes strongly in the power of education to transform lives and is very committed to advancing our values in everything we do. For Martin, enrichment has always been a particular priority as he sees this as giving our students the opportunity to expand their interests and experiences.
After graduating in Classics from Cambridge Martin joined KPMG where he became a senior partner in the infrastructure financing advisory business, with a focus on public sector projects in a number of sectors, including transport, health, defence and IT, and regulatory policy. He worked extensively with clients across the EU and Asia as well as in the UK. His most famous project was working on the financing of Eurotunnel. He was also partner in charge of the art collection and the chair of the UK firm’s LGBT staff group. From 2008 to 2010 Martin was Commercial Director at the Department of Energy and Climate Change, advising ministers on the financing of green energy, structuring experimental green energy projects and negotiating with the Treasury to secure funding.
Since 2010 Martin has worked with private clients and a number of voluntary groups, including as a fund-raiser for FRINGE!, an LGBT film festival which takes place annually in Hackney. In his spare time Martin plays the piano and is a keen art enthusiast.
