On Wednesday the 15th of July 2020 The Charter School Bermondsey was proud to host a virtual prize-giving ceremony. We had an amazing keynote speaker in the form of published author and leadership coach, Diane Osagie. It was fantastic to have some very exciting sponsors of the top prizes too.

Our Just Giving fund launched at the end of March with a target of raising £10,000 to support our pupils to overcome barriers to learning during the school shutdown. We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of our community who enabled us to achieve this target in just 2 weeks and the total has since reached £35K! Read all about it in the Southwark News. A massive shout out to all donors, particularly the Shad Thames Residents’ Association, John Virgo, Grosvenor, the Worshipful Company of Pewterers and the Curriers. You still can donate to the Compass Hardship fund.

We had our Community Christmas Fair on the 6th of December; there was an exciting range of activities including Christmas card and wreath-making stalls, live music, sports and even a pair of donkeys! Year 7 student, Ronnie sang beautifully as did the choir and Samuel, in Year 11 read a very moving self-penned poem, ‘He’s Just a Baby’ about the child Jesus at the heart of the Christmas story. There were impressive prizes generously donated by our school governors and businesses in our local community; all the money raised will go towards Bede, The Charter School Bermondsey enrichments and Time and Talents. Many thanks to everyone in our community for making it such a wonderful evening for all who attended, we very much look forward to another event like this in the summer term!

The Summer Show is always a highlight of the Compass calendar, and 2019’s rousing presentation of Peter Pan was a proud continuation of that tradition.
Students from Years 7 to 9 rose to the occasion, working with the music education charity Voices Foundation, and the Royal Academy of Dance/ Jack Petchey Foundation sponsored Step into Dance in order to combine elements of drama, dance and song. Ultimately, they delivered a lively, multifaceted and imaginative production that had the audience toe- tapping and clapping away in the aisles.
